Azul is a beautiful corner restaurant with large windows towards the quiet streets of the East Village. Its dark wooden interior has a very inviting and warm appeal, as if it has been around for at least a hundred years. Quite unique is the restaurant’s ceiling, which is plastered with colorful old magazine pages from the sixties and seventies. Great!
Azul’s dedication is towards South American food, especially the variety of steaks and red wines is an unforgettable experience.

This is the restaurant that surprised me most. I had never heard of the Blue Hill until I attended a business dinner in this amazing restaurant. Thanks to the generous sponsor - who unfortunately couldn’t join us that very evening – we had the best time enjoying the tasting menu. It gave us a little bit of everything this special place has to offer. Without doubt the food was fantastic, beautifully creative (not only the way it was decorated), served with different accompanying wines and topped with a great attentiveness from the waitress... which was a little too much for my taste, but I guess it is expressing the quality served and the price charged. Over all it has been a perfect choice for an exquisite dinner in a charming environment.

By the way, Chef Dan Barber is dedicated to serve only organic produce and meat, most of which comes from The Blue Hill family farm in Massachusetts.

Aurora Ristorante70 Grand Street, Brooklyn NY 11211 Click this icon to see some

Aurora is a fairly new Italian Trattoria attraction in the Southside of Williamsburg. This is not a pizzeria. Aurora seems to have popped up overnight, coming from nowhere but leaving us with the memory of the old brick building now hosting this beautiful restaurant. Aurora instantly made it’s way into our hearts. Exposed high brick walls inside, a large bar, dark wooden furniture and candlelight are leaving a very pleasant and romantic impression. During summer have a great time eating outside in the beautiful backyard, which makes it easy to forget that you’re hanging out in an old industrial Brooklyn neighborhood.
Enjoy the very good Italian dishes and the experience of an extraordinary place!

Balthazar is amazing. A large beautiful French restaurant in a very mundane 30’s style, always packed and with a menu containing a great variety of delicious dishes. Don’t be surprised to run into celebrities here, as this restaurant has become a real New York institution. Congratulations to the owners, they are doing a perfect job. The service is extremely attentive and they are always trying hard to fit everybody in, even at times when there’s hardly a single empty chair left.
Best time at the Balthazar is for dinner and weekend brunches. The basket of home-made bread is already worth going. And for everybody who can’t just get enough of it…try the restaurant’s own bakery next door.

Bread is great: young, busy and loud. This is the right place for a good start into the night or a very casual hang out with friends. It’s the sort of place you’ll definitely only find in New York. Enjoy the small delicious snacks, a couple of glasses of wine and lots of fun. All this might sound a bit too easy going, but everything is of great quality…and it’s so alive - thumbs up!

Thanks Mark and Andrew for your giving us Bonita! This is a real Mexican cantina serving Mexican dishes in the most unpretentious manner. The open fireplace right behind the bar adds to the open and cozy atmosphere where you watch your food being prepared. The staff is really nice and attentive, all originals from the Southside neighborhood.
I personally love Bonita in summer when I get a seat at the large open windows, or right on the boardwalk of Bedford Street. This is where you inhale the spirit of the Southside, as much as in M&A’s first restaurant a couple of blocks away – the Broadway Diner. Places like these make the neighborhood what it is! Perfect!

Casimir is a typical East Village restaurant for a younger crowd. The interior decorated with dark wood and soft candlelight makes it a real cozy experience. As the neighborhood itself, Casimir is always busy. A perfect choice for a good dinner and or for hanging out with friends. Although Casimir is originally French, they serve quite a variety of dishes. A typical classic you should try is Steak Frites and red wine.

Dezibel is a hilarious Japanese street-style joint, spiced up with cool music. I even can’t specify whether it’s right to introduce it in our list of restaurants. But eventually I decided you need to go and see it! More of a bar, they serve a huge variety of drinks, including all kinds of sakes and Japanese whiskeys plus very good sushi, even at late hours.

Dezibel is located in a dark basement. You’ll have to walk down a couple of stairs off the boardwalk and buzz a doorbell to get in. The staff is all Japanese and extremely authentic. It might take a few minutes to get your bearings, but after adjusting to this strange place you’ll love it…and I bet you’ll find yourself hanging out there all night.

The Broadway Diner – that’s what it should be called. Don’t confuse it with other Williamsburg diners, copying this original from the Southside. This is a real 30’s diner, which has been moved around in Brooklyn a few times until it’s been reopened by Andrew and Mark as the “Diner”. This has been a few of years ago, when the Williamsburg Southside was still a dark place and just on the brink of becoming hip.
The Diner has always been an awesome place - since many years and through many great parties. So, I even can’t say anything else than that it’s a precious neighborhood icon. Thanks M&A - keep it as it is!

Edward’s is a very nice local Tribeca restaurant. It is perfect for speak easies, drinks at the bar as well as for casual dinners. The entire place has a very inviting atmosphere and makes you feel comfortable with its warm lighting and large windows. Matching the interior the food is kind of diner-style and very good. All this doesn’t sound too exciting, but we’re always enjoying it for its quiet not too-busy atmosphere and its decent attitude…and that’s just great in the recently exaggerated neighborhood of Tribeca. As I said, very nice.
