Odeon is a true classic in the Tribeca neighborhood. It is warm, beautifully styled and very inviting, located at a corner - a sort of French brasserie with a touch of 50’s chrome style interior. As long as we know it, the Odeon has been a hot spot for the movie industry and everyone else who felt equally important. Luckily it has outgrown its fancy image a bit and truly is a place of great charm now. Odeon serves delicious French bistro style food and the service goes its way to make you feel very comfortable. This is the perfect choice for lazy weekend brunches! Great.

A unique name and a very unique place! We call it the “Belgian bread place”…not knowing if this is really true. This is our first choice for having breakfast or brunch. The interior style is very warm with plenty of light woods and high brick walls. At the heart of the beautiful restaurant are two amazingly long, wooden tables where locals gather having their coffees, boiled eggs and delicious sandwiches. But here is a tip. Forget about the normal sandwich stuff you know. These are nicely made with the most exquisite European bread and the nicest toppings. This is a very pleasant place with very friendly attitude. Mhhhmmm…

Pastis is a superb French brasserie in the Meatpacking District, actually quite big, always busy and loud. Pastis has a very nice charm. Pastis is just made for eating, drinking, talking…eating, drinking and some more talking. The Pastis is alive, like a restaurant right next to a market place, some place in France. You’ll find a very colorful crowd and despite their differences, everyone fits in. If you feel like, get a seat at a table right in the middle of the restaurant, or choose a more quiet place next to a window. In any case, enjoy and engage.

The food is typical French bistro style, with many choices from salads to Steak Frites. Everything delicious! You can’t just come here once.

Pere Pinard175 Ludlow Street, New York NY 10002 Click this icon to see some

Pere Pinard is French, of course. I remember cruising with two friends around the lower East Side when we spotted this nice restaurant. With a huge awning and dark wooden framed windows it looked like it had been part of the neighborhood forever. Without realizing we walked in on the day of the grand opening. We had a seat at the bar, ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir and some olives…and we had a blast! We instantly made friends at the bar, had good talks with the very friendly bartenders and eventually ended up having more bottles of delicious wine and quite some more of those olives…what a night!

Ever since Pere Pinard is on our list of favorites. It hasn’t lost any of its initial spirit. The crowd is very pleasant, the food is delicious and the wines are absolutely fabulous. My favorite dish is Steak Tartare, which is prepared right at your table and definitely a Pere Pinard Classic. Enjoy!

Pescadou, another beautiful French restaurant, is located in a little remote part of SoHo, close to a firehouse and right off a quiet part of 6th Avenue. Tourists are hardly scratching this area, so Pescadou is serving both locals and insiders. I love Pescadou for real quiet and delicious candlelight dinners in the backroom of the restaurant. Did I say romantic? Time doesn’t exist here, there’s no rush and you get the feeling the evening never ends.
The dishes are extraordinarily good, and so are the wines. So, lean back and celebrate! (don’t forget to try the goat cheese salad)

Peter Luger178 Broadway, Brooklyn NY 11211 Click this icon to see some

Peter Luger is the oldest and definitely the most famous steak house in New York City. Funny enough it is located in Brooklyn and people from Manhattan cross the Williamsburg Bridge to Peter Luger’s for the best Porterhouse Steak in town. Unfortunately Luger is always extremely busy so it is wise to make reservations long in advance.
The restaurant itself is located in an old brick building and feels like an old Austrian/Bavarian restaurant of the 1900’s. The walls are wood paneled, central chandeliers are hanging off the ceilings and the old dark wooden tables are giving it an intrinsic rustic feeling. You’ll love it!

Make sure no one in your party is a vegetarian – Peter Luger is reserved for meat lovers only :-)

pictures of the restaurant
Before Williamsburg became an incredible hip neighborhood, Planet Thai used to be a very well known and tiny take-away on Bedford Street. In those days there were only a few tables inside, never enough for the artsy crowds waiting to be seated. Speaking for itself, the food was delicious and at a real bargain.
To everyone’s surprise Planet Thai all of a sudden moved to a huge industrial loft with brick walls and high ceilings, only a couple of blocks from its original location. The new location is amazing, even has two entrances, plenty of space for displaying art, a couple of bars and plenty of tables. Planet Thai has two different menus, one for Japanese dishes, the other one for Thai food. And best of all prices remain affordable. No wonder it is as busy as in the old days.

Rice SOHO really tries to comfort you as much as possible and you literally can feel the dedication of its owner to giving you the very best. Rice DUMBO is the Brooklyn satellite of the SoHo counterpart. It’s located in the upcoming neighborhood of DUMBO - District Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass - right between Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. Rice DUMBO presents more restaurant, less take-out. The young and busy crowd is treated with excellent dishes - no matter if you’re just grabbing a bite or going for a business lunch. Like Rice SOHO the kitchen does an excellent job and the restaurant is designed so beautifully that it’s always a pleasure coming back.
Go check out Low Bar, which you’ll find in the basement. It is a stage for local performances.

If you want to visit a real Bavarian restaurant go to Avenue C in the East Village. It has an original name, looks original, feels original and tastes original. It can’t get much more authentic. The owner is a young German from Bavaria. He built this restaurant from scratch and in no time Zum Schneider became really well known throughout the entire city. It is always busy and people are having a great time – it is like a bit Oktoberfest every day.

You’ll find all major Bavarian beer brands on tap while enjoying original homemade dishes from the countryside. If you like beer and look for a different place to meet with your friends, go Bavarian.
