Tomoe Sushi is well known to be one of the best sushi and sashimi restaurants in New York City. Don’t expect a fancy interior or candlelight. This is hardcore Japanese. Simple, little decoration, no luxury. It is the delicious and authentic food which makes Tomoe Sushi so extraordinary and famous. The variety of original Japanese dishes is amazing and the quality is simply superb.

Funny enough, visiting Tomoe Sushi has become a tradition of waiting for up to 30 minutes outside in order to get a table. This sounds odd at first, but regulars are used to it and have created a spontaneous meeting place on Thompson Street’s sidewalk. Join the crowd and enjoy… both the food and making new friends!

This is definitely the most sophisticated and stylish way of having genuine Korean food in New York City. The restaurant is divided in a very well designed bar and reception area in the front, an open restaurant section in the back and some remote quiet room upstairs, which are more for private parties or celebrity guests hiding from the people (us) downstairs.
I personally prefer the stylish restaurant section with its open kitchen counter. You’re totally integrated in the kitchen action and you can actually see the chefs preparing the food. The tables have an integrated open fireplace where you barbecue your Bul Gogi (marinated beef) and roll it into fresh whole salad leaves. This is so delicious! Don’t be shy about not knowing how to do it. The service is extremely nice and helpful, in true Korean tradition. A fantastic place – this is New York!

What would New York City be without the 2nd Avenue Deli? This is one of the most famous Deli’s, period. Traditionally Jewish, they serve their original delicacies, as well as real old classics from the center of Europe. Although the deli opened in 1954, the interior reminds us a little bit of the 1920’s, when wood framed and etched glass was used for dividers in restaurants and hotel lobbies. It puts you back in time and gives you the right chill to really enjoy your meals.
My absolute favorite on the menu is Beef Gulash, this is so good! If you’re up for an unforgettable deli experience, this is the place to go. Unbelievable.

1492 used to be a liquor store before some guys turned it into an extremely beautiful and stylish restaurant with a high ceiling and open brick walls. The space itself is small and narrow and has a huge glass window facing the street. The dark antique furniture and the warm lighting are giving it a great charm – very nice.
Enjoy the bar, the beautiful dining area or the tiny backyard during warm summer nights. Enjoy the Tapas with a glass of wine in a very unpretentious and relaxing atmosphere. Also a great place for drinks only! Have fun!
