We all have our favorite fork in the kitchen drawer. It's the special one, the different one, sometimes old and worn, with its teeth slightly bent up or down or with an unique dent. The one we like the most and we it call ours because it tells a story....I'm sure you have one too.
My story began years ago with having the desire to collect table and silverware. I envisioned a long dinner table set all in white, with beautiful glasses and antique silverware. Every single piece on the table should be unique and a piece of art. Each piece should tell its own story.
It appeared hard to find the silverware as I envisioned it. I took my time collecting with patience. I happened to find many forks at the famous Berlin flea markets, which seems to be the perfect place for such a thing. But times changed.
I moved to New York City. New York did its trick on me and dragged me into its swirl of pure fascination. Exploring the city for many years, I became intrigued by an array of amazing restaurants, which I kept returning to. All these places are driven by the dedication of their owners, their love for food and their sense of friendliness and joy. Not even mentioning the great food and wine. Click here to see the restaurants.
I started collecting forks from each of these unique restaurants. Yes, that was quite a piece of work. Call it "artistic convincing" which I needed to use to get the waiters and owners to leave me a fork. But eventually they all loved the idea and my passion for collecting the forks. That’s where my vision of the long dinner table started to unfold, with every single fork telling a story of its own. Each fork would connect me with one of the greatest places and the most wonderful people in New York City.
I tagged each fork, like a bird gets ringed. Each tag states the date, the restaurant and the friends I enjoyed dinner with that evening. Each time I hold a fork in my hand it reminds me of a very special occasion.
This is where Forks-NewYork was born. I created a big art print with the ten most important forks out of my entire collection. Each fork shows precisely which restaurant it is from. Click here to see the poster. It states the name of the restaurant and its street address underneath each single fork.
My friends loved it and pushed me to publish the art print as a poster, and so I did. This is my way of sharing my Forks of New York with you and it's my way of passing on the experience. By now all my friends have a framed version of the poster on their dining room wall, or in their kitchen. Get yours by clicking here.
A fork in the mail – I just received a beautiful piece of silverware in the mail. It was nicely packaged and came from the owner of one of my most favorite restaurants. I always wanted it to be part of my collection, but at the time they refused to give me one of their precious forks.
It is the nicest surprise that my idea started to grow on them. Thanks for the great honor and for one of the most beautiful pieces in my collection now...I love it.
Enjoy it.

Our restaurant tips definitely are a very personal choice. They do represent our personal taste. Ecouraging enough, we are getting great response on them. That's a great honor for us and an even greater one for the restaurants.
Thumbs up! Thanks. |

What's the benefit of having a restaurant guide with thousands of listings, versus not having |

any at all? You're right, there's none. You might as well just walk down the streets and have a peek into every single restaurant to see whether you like it or not…
